Ship explodes at Danube mouth: 3 USPA employees killed, several more hospitalized

On the evening of July 23, an explosion occurred on a dredger at the Bystre estuary on the Danube in the Odesa Region. Three employees of the Ukrainian Sea Ports Authority state enterprise (USPA) were killed in the incident.

It was reported by the USPA.

According to the USPA, the ship was performing scheduled dredging work. At the time of the explosion, 11 crew members were on board. The injured sailors were taken to the hospital and are receiving medical care.

The causes of the explosion have not yet been announced. The relevant services are working on the scene. The passage through the Bystre estuary has been temporarily closed - ships are being redirected via the Sulina Canal.

The ship belongs to the Delta-pilot branch of the USPA. The enterprise assures that the families of the deceased and injured will receive all necessary support.
