Zelenskyy announces new bill on anti-corruption bodies: while preserving independence

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy is preparing a bill that should strengthen the law and order system and guarantee the independence of anti-corruption bodies. The head of state will present the initiative to the Verkhovna Rada in the near future. According to Zelenskyy, the document will take into account proposals from law enforcement agencies and public expectations.

He stated this in an evening address.

"I will propose to the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine a bill that will be a response that will provide strength to the law and order system. And there will be no Russian influence or interference in the activities of law enforcement agencies, and - very importantly - all the norms for the independence of anti-corruption institutions will be there," the President said.

According to him, the SSU, NABU, SAPO, MIA, NACP, SBI, and the Prosecutor General have consulted among themselves and are ready to propose an action plan that can "strengthen the rule of law in Ukraine." Zelenskyy stressed that he had heard everything "that people are saying these days" on the streets and on social media and analyzed their concerns.

As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, on July 22, the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine voted in the second reading for draft law No. 12414.

This draft law provides for granting the Prosecutor General access to all NABU and SAPO cases. He will also receive the authority to independently report suspicions to top officials.

263 parliamentarians voted "in favor". Earlier, the list of names of parliamentarians who supported the draft law became known.

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy signed draft law No. 12414 on July 22. It entered into force yesterday, July 23.
