President Volodymyr Zelenskyy gathered all the heads of law enforcement and anti-corruption agencies and said that they agreed to work constructively. Zelenskyy announced this on the Telegram channel, Ukrainian News Agency reports.
"I gathered all the heads of law enforcement and anti-corruption agencies, the Prosecutor General was also there. A meeting is very necessary, a frank and useful conversation that really helps. We all have a common enemy - the russian occupiers, and the protection of the Ukrainian state implies sufficient strength of the law enforcement and anti-corruption systems, and therefore - a real sense of justice. Criminal proceedings should not last for years without lawful verdicts, and those who work against Ukraine should not feel comfortable and not feel what the inevitability of punishment is," he said.
Zelenskyy, in particular, noted that the meeting was attended by the heads of the SSU, NABU, SAPO, NACP, SBI, MIA, and Prosecutor General Ruslan Kravchenko.
"Thank you for your willingness to work as a team - as a team of Ukraine. And for the sake of Ukraine's interests. We agreed that everyone will work exclusively constructively," the President said.
Zelenskyy noted that during the meeting, they discussed the necessary administrative and legislative decisions that will strengthen the work of each institution, resolve existing contradictions, and eliminate threats. It was agreed that next week there will be a working meeting on a general action plan, and in two weeks a joint plan should be ready - what steps are needed and will be implemented to strengthen Ukraine and eliminate existing issues.
As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, on July 22, the Verkhovna Rada adopted bill No. 12414, which subordinates anti-corruption agencies to the Prosecutor General, in particular, grants the Prosecutor General access to all cases of the National Anti-Corruption Bureau (NABU) and the authority to independently sign suspicions against all top officials.
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy signed this law on the same day, and it entered into force on July 23.
NABU and SAPO asked Zelenskyy to veto the bill, which effectively subordinates NABU and SAPO to the Prosecutor General and which, according to their statement, destroys the independence of both institutions and is the end of the independent work of the two anti-corruption institutions.
On July 22, protests were held in Kyiv, Dnipro, Odesa and Lviv against the adoption of the bill on NABU and SAPO with a demand for Zelenskyy to veto it.
In a nighttime video address, Zelenskyy commented on the resonant situation surrounding the adopted law that limits the independence of the NABU and SAPO, and explained his actions by the need to rid anti-corruption bodies of "russian influences." At the same time, Zelenskyy stated that the anti-corruption infrastructure will work, only without russian influences.
