Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev said his country is preparing an international lawsuit against the aggressor country of russia over the crash of an Azerbaijan Airlines (AZAL) plane on December 25, 2024. This was reported by Euronews and AKIpress.
Aliyev said that Azerbaijan has a clear understanding of what happened to the AZAL plane, and that russian officials have the same information. According to him, Baku has not received "any reaction" from russian officials for 7 months.
"Our Prosecutor General regularly sends letters to the head of the Investigative Committee of russia. But all letters receive the same answer: "The investigation is ongoing," Aliyev said.
The publications write that the President of Azerbaijan has repeatedly demanded that russia "admit this disaster as its fault, punish those who shot down the plane, and compensate the families of the killed, the injured, and AZAL Airlines for the loss of the plane." Aliyev stressed that the lawsuit will be filed with international authorities, and that Azerbaijan can prove its accusations.
As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, on December 26, Euronews wrote that the Embraer 190 plane crashed as a result of being hit by a missile fired from the air defense complex of the army of the aggressor country, russia.
On December 26, 2024, the Azerbaijani parliament called on russia to admit its involvement in the plane crash and apologize for the incident.
On December 27, Azerbaijan Airlines stated that its Embraer 190 aircraft, which crashed in Kazakhstan on December 25, had experienced physical and technical external interference before the accident.
