Ukraine's gas storage facilities less than 30% full, current figure lowest in 12 years

As of July 17, Ukraine has pumped more than 9 billion cubic meters of natural gas into underground gas storage facilities. This is slightly more than 29% of the storage capacity.

ExPro reported this on Friday, July 18.

Compared to 2024, there is 1.4 billion cubic meters less gas in underground storage facilities.

It is noted that the current gas reserves in storage facilities are the lowest in the last 12 years. At the same time, the gap with last year's indicators is currently being reduced.

In June, more than 940 million cubic meters of gas were pumped into storage facilities, which is 1.9 times more than in June 2024.

In July, more than 1.7 billion cubic meters of gas are expected to be pumped. If this is implemented, it will be the best monthly figure since August 2023.

It was emphasized that Ukraine needs to pump at least 13 billion cubic meters of gas into storage facilities before the start of the heating season. If the current pace is maintained, this will be done ahead of time.

As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, on June 14 of this year, Ukraine and Poland agreed to temporarily increase the level of guaranteed throughput capacity in the direction of Ukraine. This will allow Ukraine to import twice as much gas.

Recall, on June 11, the former head of the GTS Operator of Ukraine Serhii Makohon said that in May of this year, Ukraine's underground storage facilities contained a historically minimal amount of gas.
