The Verkhovna Rada appointed Andrii Sybiha, who held the same position in the government of Denys Shmyhal, as Minister of Foreign Affairs in the new government of Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko. This was announced by Yaroslav Zhelezniak, MP from the Holos faction, on the Telegram channel, Ukrainian News Agency reports.
"The Verkhovna Rada appointed Andrii Sybiha to the position of Minister of Foreign Affairs. Before that, he worked... as Minister of Foreign Affairs. In favor - 271," he said.
Thus, 271 MPs voted for the relevant resolution No. 13495 on the appointment of Sybiha as Minister of Foreign Affairs, with the minimum required 226.
50-year-old Sybiha has held the position of Minister of Foreign Affairs since September 2024.
Prior to that, since April 2024, he held the position of First Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs.
Since June 2021, he has been Deputy Head of the President's Office.
In 2016-2021, Sybiha was the Ambassador of Ukraine to Turkey.
As Ukrainian News Agency reported, earlier on Thursday, July 17, the Verkhovna Rada appointed Yulia Svyrydenko, who held the position of First Vice Prime Minister - Minister of Economy in the government of Denys Shmyhal, as the new Prime Minister.
On July 16, the Verkhovna Rada accepted the resignation of Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal. According to the Constitution, the resignation of the Prime Minister entails the resignation of the entire Cabinet of Ministers.
