Rada appoints Svyrydenko Prime Minister

The Verkhovna Rada has appointed Yulia Svyrydenko, who held the position of First Vice Prime Minister - Minister of Economy in the government of Denys Shmyhal, as the new Prime Minister. This was announced by the co-chair of the European Solidarity faction in the Verkhovna Rada, Iryna Herashchenko, on the Telegram channel, Ukrainian News Agency reports.

"Yu. Svyridenko is the new Prime Minister of Ukraine. Her candidacy was supported by 262 MPs, Servant of the People, Opposition Platform - For Life, and groups. It is worth noting that 'Servants" gave only 201 votes, that is, there is no mono majority and this hangs the legitimacy of the Government," she said.

Thus, 262 MPs voted for the relevant resolution No. 13494 on the appointment of Svyrydenko as Prime Minister, with the minimum required 226.

The MP from the Holos faction Yaroslav Zhelezniak reported on the Telegram channel about the distribution of votes of MPs for Prime Minister Svyrydenko: "Servants" - 201; European Solidarity - 0; Batkivshchyna - 0; Holos - 1; Platform for Life - 15; Vidnovlennia - 10; For the Future - 12; Dovira - 15.

39-year-old Svyrydenko has held the position of First Vice Prime Minister - Minister of Economy since November 2021. Prior to that, she was the Deputy Head of the President's Office since December 2020.

Since September 2019, she has been Deputy Minister of Economy, Trade and Agriculture, and in July 2020, she was appointed First Deputy Minister of this ministry.

Svyrydenko was born on December 25, 1985 in the city of Chernihiv.

In 2008, she graduated from the Kyiv University of Trade and Economics with a degree in "Antimonopoly Management", has a master's degree in antimonopoly management. In the same year, she entered the postgraduate program of the Kyiv National University of Trade and Economics with a degree in "Economics and Management of the National Economy".

She began her career in 2008 in the private sector as an economist in financial work at the Ukrainian-Andorran joint venture JSC "AMP" (Kyiv), later she worked as an appraiser at the Chernihiv Intercity Bureau of Technical Inventory, and as Deputy Director of LLC "Eco-Vtor" (Kyiv).

From July 30 to November 28, 2018, Svyrydenko served as Acting Head of the Chernihiv Regional State Administration.

As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, on July 16, the Verkhovna Rada accepted the resignation of Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal. According to the Constitution, the resignation of the Prime Minister entails the resignation of the entire Cabinet of Ministers.

On July 14, Zelenskyy announced that he had proposed that First Vice Prime Minister - Minister of Economy Yulia Svyrydenko head the government and renew its work.
