Trump says he will impose tariffs on 150 countries at once

US President Donald Trump said he intends to send a single letter notifying more than 150 countries of the tariffs they will face.

This is reported by Politico.

"It will be the same for everyone, for this group. These are not big countries, and they do not do as much business. Not like the ones that we have agreed with, like China, like Japan," Trump told reporters during a meeting with Bahrain's Crown Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa at the White House.

So far, Trump has already sent about two dozen letters to individual trading partners, such as the European Union, Japan and South Korea, notifying them of the tariffs they will face from August 1.

The publication notes that at the same time there is skepticism about whether the new tariff rates will take effect on August 1, due to the potential impact they could have on the economy and, ultimately, on Trump's ratings.

Currently, all countries pay an additional base tariff of 10 percent, which Trump imposed in April.

As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, in the meantime, EU Trade Commissioner Maroš Šefčovič said that the US President's threat to impose a 30% tariff on European goods would "virtually ban" transatlantic trade.
