Trump says he reached agreement to send American weapons to Ukraine through NATO

US President Donald Trump said he has reached an agreement with NATO for the United States to send weapons to Ukraine through the alliance, and that NATO will pay for these weapons "100 percent."

He said this in an interview with NBC on Thursday.

"We are sending weapons to NATO, and NATO is paying for these weapons 100 percent. We will send the Patriots to NATO, and then NATO will distribute them," the President said in a telephone interview on Thursday.

NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte spoke with Trump earlier on Thursday.

"Russia's continued massive attacks against Ukrainian civilians are deplorable. Earlier today I urged leaders to go further so Ukraine has more ammunition & air defences. I've just spoken with President Trump & am now working closely with Allies to get Ukraine the help they need," Rutte wrote on social media.

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio also said earlier on Thursday that the United States was "actively" negotiating with European countries to provide Ukraine with Patriot batteries.

"There are other Patriot batteries and there are other possibilities. The countries that have ordered Patriot batteries and are about to receive them, it would be great if one of them would volunteer to postpone this delivery and send them to Ukraine," Rubio told reporters.

In his interview with NBC News on Thursday, the President also announced that he would make a "major statement" on russia on Monday, but did not provide additional details.

"I am disappointed with russia ... on Monday I will make a major statement on russia," he said.

As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, US President Donald Trump, for the first time since returning to office, plans to send weapons to Ukraine within the framework of his presidential powers, which his predecessor Joe Biden actively used. The expected cost of the package could reach approximately USD 300 million.

Earlier, Trump said that he was dissatisfied with the large-scale air attack by the army of the aggressor country of russia on Ukraine, using more than seven hundred UAVs.
