On June 27, an explosion occurred in the engine compartment of the tanker "Vilamoura", which belongs to the "shadow fleet" of the aggressor country of the russian federation. This is stated in the message of the Defense Intelligence of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine.
It is reported that the incident occurred during the passage of the vessel from the Libyan port of Ez-Zuwaitina 150 kilometers northeast of the territorial waters of Libya. At that time, the tanker was under the flag of the Marshall Islands and was loaded with at least 1 million barrels of crude oil.
According to intelligence, "Vilamoura" was repeatedly used to transport oil products from the ports of the aggressor state of russia. For example, in April 2025, the tanker was at the terminal of the port of Ust-Luga, and in May it was recorded in the Novorossiysk area.
"As of July 1, 2025, the fire-fighting tug under the Maltese flag "Boka Summit" is towing an explosion-damaged tanker of the russian shadow fleet to the Laconian Gulf in Greece to assess the vessel's condition," the intelligence officers note.
The owner of the tanker "Vilamoura" is the transport company "TMS Tanker ltd.", registered in Marousi, Greece.
As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, in April, Ukraine arrested a foreign vessel of the "shadow fleet" of the aggressor country of russia, which was illegally exporting looted Ukrainian grain through Crimea.
It was also reported that the Verkhovna Rada intends to introduce a sanctions mechanism against the "shadow fleet" of the aggressor country the russian federation.
