Banks earned UAH 12.5 billion in May and UAH 65.5 billion since year start

Banks earned UAH 12.5 billion in May and UAH 65.5 billion since the beginning of the year.

This is evidenced by data from the National Bank of Ukraine, Ukrainian News Agency reports.

Banks' income for 5 months amounted to UAH 227 billion, and expenses - UAH 161.5 billion.

Interest income for the corresponding period amounted to UAH 160.9 billion, commission income - UAH 48.3 billion.

Interest expenses - UAH 54.2 billion, commissions - UAH 23.9 billion.

Banks' net profit (after tax) for the first 5 months of 2025 amounted to UAH 65.5 billion.

This is 3.6%, or UAH 2.4 billion less than for the same period last year.

The decrease in net profit is primarily due to an increase in administrative and other expenses, as well as an increase in deductions to reserves for non-performing loans.

At the same time, the basis of high profitability of banks remains net interest income, which increased by 13.8%.

As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, in the first quarter of 2025, the banking sector received UAH 40 billion in profit, 65.7% of which was generated by state-owned banks, including PrivatBank.

Solvent banks, according to preliminary data, received UAH 103.7 billion in net profit in 2024 due to the steady growth in the volume of high-quality loans and investments in government bonds, which is 25% more compared to 2023 (profit was UAH 83 billion).
