Parliament Speaker Ruslan Stefanchuk has reported that the Verkhovna Rada is developing a bill that will regulate the holding of elections after the end of russia's war in Ukraine.
He said this on the air of a telethon.
"The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, after the end of this war, must answer one very important question - how to hold elections in Ukraine that will be recognized as democratic, both inside the country and outside it. And here is a whole series of issues that face us, and we are working on each of them.
In particular, active and passive suffrage for military personnel who are on the front line. Issues related to the possibility of exercising their electoral rights for those citizens who are still outside. The issue of inviting our foreign colleagues who should be observers," he stated.
Stefanchuk noted that the draft law is being developed. He emphasized that, in order to hold the next elections, a new special bill is needed, which will concern the so-called post-war elections in Ukraine.
He emphasized that this requires answers to both big and small questions, and much will depend on how and when the war ends.
"We are preparing various basic scenarios so that people can exercise their fundamental constitutional right to choose. And this should be in Ukraine. And it seems to me that we will be able to find this correct legislative compromise," Stefanchuk summed up.
We will remind, earlier, the member of the Verkhovna Rada, the head of the subcommittee on elections, Alina Zahoruiko, said in an interview with the Ukrainian News agency that, in her opinion, the first post-war elections should be held under the usual proportional system.
As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, Stefanchuk previously emphasized that, according to current legislation, elections cannot be held during martial law, although some factions in the Verkhovna Rada have already begun preparing for them.
