On the night of Sunday, June 29, while repelling a massive russian missile and drone strike, F-16 pilot Maksym Ustymenko was killed. This is indicated in a statement by the Air Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
"Unfortunately, today we have another painful loss. This night, while repelling a massive enemy air attack, a pilot of the 1st class, Lieutenant Colonel Maksym Ustymenko, born in 1993, died on an F-16 aircraft," it says.
According to the Air Forces, Ustymenko used the entire complex of on-board weapons, shot down seven air targets. However, while working out the last target, his plane was damaged and began to lose altitude.
"Maksym Ustymenko did everything possible, took the aircraft away from the settlement, but did not have time to eject... He died like a Hero!" the Air Forces added.
As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, on the night of May 16, the Ukrainian Air Forces lost an F-16 fighter jet during a combat sortie. The plane disappeared from radar at around 3:30 a.m., when it was performing a mission to repel an enemy air attack. Then the pilot managed to take the plane outside the settlement and successfully ejected.
