Denmark will be the first country with which Ukraine will launch joint production of long-range drones and missiles outside of Ukraine.
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced this, speaking about his meeting with Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen in The Hague on the Telegram channel, the Ukrainian News agency reports.
"We discussed the development of joint weapons production, Denmark's presidency of the EU Council, and further support for our soldiers. There are important decisions - Denmark will be the first country with which we will launch joint defense production. Every country that sincerely helps Ukraine now can count on a mutually beneficial partnership with us. Let's strengthen Europe together," he said.
In turn, the Office of the President reported that during the meeting, Zelenskyy and Frederiksen paid special attention to deepening defense cooperation and weapons production in both Ukraine and Denmark. Separately, they discussed the development of the Danish model, which has proven its effectiveness. This year, Denmark will allocate EUR 1.26 billion for the Ukrainian production of long-range drones.
They also exchanged views on plans for the Danish presidency of the Council of the European Union, which will begin in a week, on July 1. The main focus is rapid progress on the European integration track and the opening of all negotiation clusters.
Defense Minister Rustem Umerov reported on Facebook that on June 24, he and Danish Defense Minister Troels Lund Poulsen signed a letter of intent in The Hague, which paves the way for joint production of Ukrainian weapons in Denmark.
Umerov noted that Denmark has already allocated DKK 500 million to launch Ukrainian defense production on its territory, all facilities created within the project will work to strengthen the Ukrainian Defense Forces.
As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, Umerov also reported that Ukraine and the United Kingdom are launching a new initiative for the joint production of drones, during the first three years the British side will finance the purchase of Ukrainian drones, which will be manufactured in the United Kingdom.
