Ukraine proposes US to expand the agreement on the US-Ukraine Reconstruction Investment Fund (minerals agreement) to support the defense industry in Ukraine, the US is open to such cooperation. First Deputy Prime Minister - Minister of Economy Yuliia Svyrydenko announced this on Facebook, the Ukrainian News agency reports.
In particular, Svyrydenko reported that as part of a visit to Canada at the G7, the Ukrainian delegation had a meeting with US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent.
"We talked about the US-Ukraine Reconstruction Investment Fund. In particular, about expanding the mandate to support defense industry projects in Ukraine. The American side is open to such cooperation," she said.
Svyrydenko also noted that the Ukrainian side called on American colleagues to increase sanctions pressure on russia in order to undermine putin's ability to continue his aggression.
As Ukrainian News Agency reported, on the night of May 1, Ukraine and the United States signed an agreement to establish the Ukraine Reconstruction Investment Fund to finance projects in the field of development and extraction of minerals, oil and gas, as well as investments in related infrastructure or processing (the minerals agreement).
On May 8, the Verkhovna Rada ratified this agreement. On May 23, Svyrydenko reported that Ukraine and the United States had completed all procedures for launching the US-Ukraine Reconstruction Investment Fund.
