US President's Special Envoy to Ukraine Keith Kellogg intends to visit Belarus in the coming days to meet with the country's self-proclaimed president, Alexander Lukashenko. The visit is planned against the background of the fact that ceasefire talks between Ukraine and the aggressor country of russia are at an impasse. This was reported by Reuters, citing four sources familiar with Kellogg's plans.
The agency emphasized that if Keith Kellogg meets with Alexander Lukashenko, he will become the highest-ranking US official to visit the authoritarian state in recent years.
The exact agenda of the meeting is currently unknown, although Kellogg described the trip in private conversations as a step that "could help start peace talks aimed at ending russia's war against Ukraine."
The US Department of State and the Belarusian embassy in Washington declined to comment. In addition, Kellogg and the White House did not respond to requests for comment.
The agency noted that planning such trips requires careful discussion, and it is possible that the trip may be canceled or postponed at the last minute.
As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, Keith Kellogg spoke about how he sees the end of the russian-Ukrainian war, and also expressed a "feeling of confidence" after getting acquainted with the vision of Kyiv and Moscow for ending the war.
