US President's Special Envoy to Ukraine Keith Kellogg spoke about his vision for the end of the russian-Ukrainian war, and also expressed a "feeling of confidence" after getting acquainted with the vision of Kyiv and Moscow for ending the war.
He said this in Brussels during the German Marshall Fund forum, Radio Liberty reports.
"We took the Ukrainian document, then the russian one - they call it a memorandum... And we said: okay, how can you combine these two documents together to get to the end state? And now we feel pretty confident. We know what the end state can and should look like. And if we could just get to that point, then we think it can be "won." By "won," I mean the opportunity to reach a peace agreement," Kellogg said.
Speaking about what exactly the "end state" might look like, he spoke about a comprehensive ceasefire.
"A ceasefire in place - that is, on the ground where you are physically located," Kellogg explained.
He noted that after that they want to get to the return of the children, the prisoners who are there, which, according to him, would make a sustainable ceasefire long-term and sustainable not only for the Ukrainians, but also for Europe.
"Then - to try to return the russians to what I would call the League of Nations. So everyone works together ... You can all live with the results of this in the long term," he added.
Kellogg also once again emphasized the number of victims on both sides, calling it "industrial-scale killing." According to him, the total number of killed and wounded is more than 1.2 million.
At the same time, Kellogg separately noted the efforts of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, and also emphasized the challenges he faces. He added that he drew the attention of US President Donald Trump to this.
"I said, sir, we haven't had an American President since Abraham Lincoln who has had to do what President Zelenskyy has done. He's waging a war for national survival on his own land... When you see that, you have to appreciate the problems they're facing on the ground right now. I think sometimes we don't see that," Kellogg said.
As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, Trump said in the meantime that he was beginning to think that putin didn't care about the losses of soldiers in the war in Ukraine.
Earlier, Trump said that he couldn't say whether putin really wanted to end the war.
The day before, US President Donald Trump said that russian dictator vladimir putin had "simply gone crazy." Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy was also criticized, who, according to Trump, was "creating problems" with his words.
