Kostiantynivka in the Donetsk Region is likely to be the target of the first stage of the summer offensive campaign of the army of the aggressor country of russia.

The British publication The Telegraph wrote about this with reference to its own sources in the Ukrainian Defense Forces.

The publication notes that at the final stage of the operation of the Ukrainian Defense Forces in the Kursk Oblast, the Ukrainian command planned to transfer the units that participated in it to the Donetsk Region.

However, the russians launched an offensive in the north of the Sumy Region and increased pressure in the Kharkiv Region, where they tried to launch an offensive in May 2024 and were able to achieve minor successes.

It is unlikely that the russians do not set themselves the goal of capturing Sumy or Kharkiv, the offensive of the russian army in these regions did not give Ukraine the opportunity to transfer reinforcements to the east.

This allowed the russians to break through the Ukrainian army’s defenses between Toretsk and Pokrovsk, advancing to Kostiantynivka.

Kostiantynivka is located at the crossroads of key roads and railways. The loss of the city would complicate supplies and potentially make Kramatorsk accessible to russian artillery. According to unnamed Ukrainian officers, this could have catastrophic consequences.

Given the russian army’s goal of capturing the entire Donetsk Region, Kostiantynivka is the main initial target of the occupiers’ summer offensive, writes The Telegraph.

Some sources of the publication allow for the loss of Kostiantynivka, but emphasize that this loss will not be catastrophic. The russian army suffers heavy losses in urban battles, without changing the strategic balance.

As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, in May of this year, the russian army seized about 200 square kilometers of territory in the Donetsk Region, advancing towards Kostiantynivka.
