Ukraine invited to NATO summit in Hague - Rutte

NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte announced that Ukraine has been invited to the NATO summit in The Hague (Netherlands), which will be held on June 24-25.

He said this, speaking in Brussels on the eve of the meeting of the Contact Group on Defense Issues on Ukraine, which will be held on June 3, Sky News quotes.

Thus, Rutte stated that NATO fully supports the efforts of US President Donald Trump to "stop the bloodshed and establish a just and lasting peace" in Ukraine.

On the eve of the meeting of the Contact Group on Defense Issues on Ukraine (the Ramstein format), which will be held today, the NATO Secretary General noted that the group "will focus on further supporting Ukraine in its fight against russian aggression."

"NATO's support for Ukraine is not aimed at continuing the war, but is aimed at ensuring Ukraine's ability to defend itself now and prevent any aggression in the future," he said.

Rutte also added that Ukraine has been invited to the NATO summit in The Hague, which will be held in three weeks and will be dedicated to a "significant increase" in defense spending, as well as discussing the war in Ukraine.

As a reminder, the Ramstein-format meeting will be held on June 4 at NATO headquarters. US Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth will not participate in the meeting of 50 defense ministers at NATO headquarters in Brussels for the first time in three years to coordinate military assistance to Ukraine. The Pentagon says that the reason for this is scheduling problems.

As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, Rutte previously stated that all NATO member states have agreed to Ukraine's membership, adding that this issue cannot be part of peace talks between Kyiv and Moscow.

At the same time, US Special Envoy to Ukraine Keith Kellogg stated that Washington recognizes the validity of russia's concerns about NATO expansion and is ready to negotiate on this topic.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stressed that if Ukraine is not present at the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) summit in June, it will be a victory for the leader of the aggressor country, russia, vladimir putin, over NATO.
