Kellogg says US ready to discuss stopping NATO's expansion to east

US President's Special Envoy for Ukraine Keith Kellogg said that Washington recognizes the validity of russia's concerns about NATO expansion and is ready to negotiate on this topic.

He said this in an interview with ABC News.

According to Kellogg, the issue of Ukraine's accession to the North Atlantic Alliance is not currently being discussed. "For us, Ukraine joining NATO is not on the table. And we’re not the only country saying that. I can probably name four NATO countries, and you need 32 out of 32 to join. And we’ve seen some say: ‘We’re not too sure about that’," he stressed.

Kellogg also noted that moscow's concerns about NATO approaching its borders are understandable for the American side. "They’re talking about Georgia. They’re talking about Moldova. They’re obviously talking about Ukraine. Okay, broadly speaking, we can halt NATO expansion that’s approaching your borders.’ These are security issues for them," he said.

At the same time, Kellogg stressed that the final decision on this issue remains with Donald Trump.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy previously stressed that Kyiv should participate in the NATO summit in The Hague, and the lack of an invitation would look like "Putin's victory over NATO."

It is also known that due to Trump's position, the Alliance is preparing a limited declaration at the summit, probably without mentioning Ukraine. Meanwhile, information appeared in the media that the United States may oppose Zelenskyy's presence at the event, but US Secretary of State Marco Rubio denied this information.
