US President Donald Trump is ready to accept Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s invitation to participate in a meeting as part of russia-Ukraine peace talks, but he wants President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and russian leader vladimir putin to sit at the negotiating table.
White House spokeswoman Karoline Leavitt told this to reporters on June 2, Radio Liberty reported.
“The president said he’s open to it if it comes down to it, but he wants both leaders and both sides to sit at the negotiating table together,” Leavitt said.
On June 2, after the russia-Ukraine talks, the Turkish president said he would like to hold a meeting between putin, Trump, and Zelenskyy in Istanbul or Ankara.
In addition, Zelenskyy had earlier held a phone conversation with Erdogan, during which they discussed the possibility of organizing four-way talks at the level of the leaders of Ukraine, russia, Turkey, and the United States.
As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, on June 2, the second round of negotiations between the delegations of Ukraine and russia took place in Istanbul.
As the Head of the Office of the President of Ukraine Andriy Yermak stated, in Istanbul the Ukrainian delegation handed over to the russians a list of children whom moscow must return to their homeland.
Ukraine and the aggressor country also agreed to exchange all seriously wounded prisoners of war, as well as all young soldiers aged 18-25.
At the same time, russia refused to introduce a 30-day ceasefire and organize a meeting between Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and russian dictator vladimir putin.
