Germany not going to transfer Taurus missiles to Ukraine – Bild

German Chancellor Friedrich Merz is leaving the issue of supplying Taurus cruise missiles to Ukraine open for strategic reasons, so that the aggressor country russia does not understand the next steps of the partner states. This is stated in the material of the Bild newspaper on Tuesday, May 27.

Bild writes that Merz did not directly promise to transfer cruise missiles to Ukraine, but Germany has already supplied weapons that allow destroying targets on russian territory. This is the Panzerhaubitze 2000 artillery gun with a range of 40 km and the Mars II missile launcher with a range of about 80 km.

"Merz is leaving the Taurus delivery open for strategic reasons, to keep Moscow in the dark about the next steps of the states supporting Ukraine. However, there are several arguments against such a delivery. Effective use of the Taurus requires months of training. And if Bundeswehr soldiers need to be kept out of sight as much as possible for political reasons, this will require significant logistical efforts," the material says.

In addition, such cruise missiles play an important role in Germany's national defense. The German Ministry of Defense called the transfer of Taurus to Ukraine "unlikely" and called this issue a "far-fetched signal" area. Vice Chancellor Lars Klingbeil also stated that "there is no new agreement" on long-range weapons for Kyiv.
