Cherkasy Azot resumes operations after forced shutdown

The Azot enterprise (Cherkasy), which is part of the Group DF nitrogen business group, has resumed production of mineral fertilizers after a forced shutdown.

This is announced in a statement by the Group DF press service, Ukrainian News Agency reports.

The statement says that the key workshops of the enterprise have been brought to the planned capacity.

In particular, the work of the A-3 ammonia workshop (with a capacity of 900 tons per day) and the M-2 urea production workshop (1,100 tons per day) has been resumed.

Within a few days, the M-5 workshop (non-concentrated nitric acid) and M-9 workshop (ammonium nitrate) for the production of UAS are also planned to be launched.

The production shutdown occurred three weeks ago due to a drop in gas pressure - as a result of an attack by Shaheds who damaged the external gas infrastructure of the city of Cherkasy.

"Restoration work was carried out around the clock. We managed to restart the enterprises and bring key workshops to the planned capacity after the gas infrastructure was restored. The enterprise is fully supplied with the necessary gas for fertilizer production and continues to supply fertilizers. Despite the forced shutdown, the plant will fulfill its obligations 100%, - commented Vitalii Skliarov, chairman of the board of PJSC Azot. - The annual production plan will be fully implemented."

It is noted that Ostchem enterprises faced forced production shutdowns associated with drones entering the territory of the plants, the destruction of external gas and energy infrastructure in the Cherkasy and Rivne Regions.

Force majeure led to forced disruptions in the supply of fertilizers.

In response to the challenges, the nitrogen holding Ostchem revised its strategy: the new priority is to reduce production risks through investments in the energy independence of enterprises.

As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, in the first quarter of 2025, the plants of the nitrogen holding Ostchem increased fertilizer production by 5.3% to 529,300 tons compared to the same period last year, when 502,800 tons were produced.

The Ostchem holding unites the nitrogen chemistry enterprises of Group DF.
