Vatican ready to become platform for peace talks between Ukraine and russia

Pope Leo XIV has expressed his readiness to host another round of peace talks between Ukraine and russia on the territory of the Vatican.

This was reported by the press service of the Italian government.

It is noted that such an initiative was discussed during a telephone conversation between the Pope and Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni.

The meeting took place after Meloni's consultations with US President Donald Trump, as well as with a number of European leaders on further steps towards a peaceful settlement of russia's war against Ukraine.

The statement says that the Prime Minister expressed deep gratitude to the Holy Father for his determination to promote peaceful dialogue and for his openness to organizing negotiations on neutral spiritual territory.

As a reminder, on May 16, Pope Leo XIV offered the Vatican as a place for a meeting of Ukrainian and russian delegations after the breakdown of negotiations in Istanbul, which russian president vladimir putin did not attend.

Ukraine also handed over lists of Ukrainian prisoners to Pope Leo XIV.
