Lviv will be the first city in Ukraine to begin testing the fifth generation of mobile communications (5G). After the tests are completed, 5G communications will be launched in the city on a commercial basis.
As Tvoe Misto reports, the director of business development in the corporate communications market of the Kyivstar mobile operator, Kostiantyn Vechir stated this.
According to him, Kyivstar is on the verge of going from 4G to 5G. The day before, testing of the network operation was carried out in Kyiv at one of the company's locations.
He added that Kyivstar has agreed with the Ministry of Digital Transformation on testing and further commercial launch of 5G generation communications in Lviv.
"We are now at a stage when all pilot tests must be coordinated with the state in a comprehensive plan for the transition to a new technology, which in principle should be supported by the entire telecom industry," Vechir said.
5G is the fifth generation of mobile communications, operating on the basis of telecommunications standards that follow 4G standards.
5G technology provides Internet speeds from 1 to 2 Gbps, lower device battery power consumption, and lower latency.
As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, on November 1, 2024, the Minister of Digital Transformation Mykhailo Fedorov announced that Ukraine is beginning the implementation of the 5G generation of mobile communications.
