Cabinet approves roadmaps for opening first cluster in pre-accession negotiations between Ukraine and EU – Shmyhal

The Cabinet of Ministers has approved roadmaps for opening first cluster in pre-accession negotiations between Ukraine and the European Union. Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal announced this on the Telegram channel, the Ukrainian News agency reports.

"Today, the Government approved the roadmaps needed for opening the first cluster in pre-accession negotiations between Ukraine and the EU. The roadmaps concern the rule of law, public administration reform, and the functioning of democratic institutions. They fully comply with Ukraine's international obligations, our strategic and program documents," he said.

Shmyhal also announced that the government approved the negotiating position for the first cluster of negotiations "Fundamentals of the EU accession process."

Thus, Ukraine has completed internal procedures for opening negotiations with the EU for the first cluster.

He noted that this year Ukraine intends to open negotiations on all six negotiation clusters, and after the end of the war to become an integral part of a united Europe.

"The roadmaps were developed in an inclusive dialogue with representatives of civil society, parliament, taking into account the recommendations of the European Commission. These are comprehensive plans containing specific steps that Ukraine plans to take in order to join the European Union as a strong and capable member state. The next stage is the transfer of the roadmaps to the European Commission and EU member states for their approval," said Deputy Prime Minister for European and Euro-Atlantic Integration - Minister of Justice Olha Stefanishyna.

In accordance with the principles of the EU negotiating framework, Ukraine has also developed and approved an Action Plan to Protect the Rights of Persons Belonging to National Minorities (Communities) of Ukraine.

As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, Deputy Prime Minister for European and Euro-Atlantic Integration - Minister of Justice Olha Stefanishyna claims that Ukraine will be a member of the European Union in 2030.

Ukraine is counting on membership in the European Union immediately after the end of the war.
