French President Emmanuel Macron said that the aggressor country russia will face new restrictive measures if it does not respond to the proposal for a 30-day ceasefire by the end of the deadline set by Western countries.
According to Le Figaro, Macron made the corresponding statement on Monday, May 12.
According to him, today he spoke by phone with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and the leaders of some European countries.
Macron emphasized that during the telephone conversations, time frames were set. They end today at midnight.
"Now everyone must be reasonable. Either Russia is serious and wants peace. Or it is not serious, and we must impose additional sanctions," Macron said.
Bilateral talks between Ukraine and russia
Last Sunday, May 11, russian dictator vladimir putin said that russia was supposedly ready for bilateral talks with Ukraine. He proposed holding them in Turkey on Thursday, May 15.
It should be noted that during his speech, putin did not say a word about the proposal of Ukraine and its allies to introduce a 30-day ceasefire from May 12.
Also on May 11, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that the United States and European allies supported his decision to hold a meeting with putin in Turkey.
According to Zelenskyy, on May 15, he will personally wait for the russian dictator to hold bilateral talks in Istanbul.
As the Axios portal wrote, Zelenskyy intends to go to Turkey even if russia does not agree to a 30-day ceasefire.
As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, earlier today, May 12, the German government threatened russia with new sanctions if it does not respond to the ceasefire proposal.
