The russians ignore the ceasefire proposal from May 12 and continue to attack Ukrainian positions along the entire front line. Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha announced this on X, the Ukrainian News agency reports.
In particular, he reported that he took part in the ministerial meeting in London online together with colleagues from the UK, Germany, Italy, Spain, Poland, France and the EU. The key topics of the meeting were peace efforts and joint work with the US.
Sybiha reported that he shared with partners the most up-to-date information about the real situation on the front line, which he received directly from the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Oleksandr Syrskyi before the meeting.
"The Russians are ignoring the offer of a complete and lasting ceasefire from May 12. They continue to attack Ukrainian positions along the entire front line. Moscow is missing another opportunity to put an end to the killings. This once again demonstrates that Russia's only goal is to continue the war. Instead, Ukraine is making every effort to stop the war and give diplomacy a chance. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy even expressed his readiness for a personal meeting with Putin on Thursday, but there is still no answer," the Minister noted.
According to Sybiha, following the meeting, the parties agreed on a strategy of action and the next steps for this week, which will be crucial for peace and responsibility.
"We discussed decisive steps, including sanctions against the banking sector, the Central Bank of the Russian Federation, and the Russian energy sector, which can be implemented simultaneously with new packages of defense assistance to Ukraine. Putin must understand the consequences of abandoning peace efforts and continuing the war," he noted.
As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, on Saturday, May 10, the leaders of France, Germany, Poland, the United Kingdom, and Ukraine issued a joint statement after a meeting in Kyiv that from Monday, May 12, there should be a complete and unconditional ceasefire for at least 30 days to create space for diplomacy. If russia refuses a complete and unconditional ceasefire, tougher sanctions should be applied to its banking and energy sectors, targeting fossil fuels, oil, and the shadow fleet.
On May 11, the leader of the aggressor country, russia, vladimir putin, declared his readiness to hold direct talks with Ukraine on May 15 in Turkey, but he did not respond to the proposal for a ceasefire from May 12 for 30 days.
On May 11, US President Donald Trump called on Ukraine to agree to talks with russia in Turkey.
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced that he will personally arrive in Turkey on May 15, where he will wait for russian dictator vladimir putin.
