The administration of US President Donald Trump does not rule out the introduction of additional sanctions against russia if the Kremlin does not show readiness for peace agreements.
This was stated by US Department of State spokeswoman Tammy Bruce during a briefing in Washington.
According to Bruce, the current restrictions remain in force, and President Trump adheres to the principle of a diplomatic approach, although the US is also focused on other international challenges.
"Of course, we are not lifting any existing sanctions. The President wants all our actions as states to be diplomatic - he clearly adheres to this approach. At the same time, he understands that there are other regions of the world, other global issues that require attention," she said.
Bruce confirmed that the US is changing its approach to the peace process and is gradually moving away from the role of a mediator in negotiations between Kyiv and Moscow.
"The essence of the changes is that we remain involved (in the negotiation process - ed.) and will help in any way we can. However, we will no longer promptly "fly around the world" to participate in the negotiations. Now it is the responsibility of the two sides (Ukraine and the russian federation - ed.), and it is time for them to present and develop specific ideas on how to end this conflict. This will be their decision," she noted.
