US suspending participation in peace talks between Ukraine and russia - Department of State

The United States will no longer mediate in talks between Kyiv and Moscow. From now on, responsibility for further steps in a peaceful settlement will rest solely with the parties to the conflict. This was stated by US Department of State spokeswoman Tammy Bruce during a briefing on May 1.

"The phase has come when Ukraine and russia must offer specific ideas for ending the war. We are not going to fly around the world to organize negotiations. This is between the two sides now. The time has come when they must present their own visions for ending this conflict," Bruce stressed.

She noted that the administration of President Donald Trump continues to support a diplomatic path to ending the war, but does not see further expediency in direct US participation in the talks.

"The President wants every decision we make as a nation to be diplomatic," the spokeswoman said.

At the same time, she emphasized that the United States cannot direct all its resources only to the Ukrainian issue: "The United States has other global priorities, and cannot concentrate all efforts exclusively around Ukraine."

Bruce also emphasized that Washington does not plan to lift the current sanctions against russia. On the contrary, new restrictions may be introduced if necessary.

"However, the United States does not plan to lift the sanctions already imposed against russia. Moreover, Washington reserves the right to introduce new restrictions if necessary," she added.

As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, on April 30, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that Kyiv is ready for any format of talks with the aggressor country, russia, to end the war.

According to Bloomberg, russian dictator vladimir putin insists on the complete occupation of four regions of Ukraine, despite US attempts to persuade him to stop along the current front line.
