Bessent says subsoil deal with Ukraine is signal to russian leadership

US Secretary of the Treasury Scott Bessent said the subsoil deal will show the russian leadership that there is "no difference" between the goals of the US and Ukraine, and will also give US President Donald Trump the opportunity to negotiate on a stronger basis.

This is reported by Sky News.

So, he said in an interview with Fox Business Network that the deal will show "the russian leadership that there is no difference between the Ukrainian people and the American people, between our goals."

"The American people will not make money if the Ukrainians do not prosper. So now we are completely in agreement from an economic point of view. And again, I think this is a strong signal to the russian leadership, and it gives President Trump the opportunity to negotiate with russia on an even stronger basis," he stressed.

Bessent emphasized that this deal is a full economic partnership: "This is not just rare earth resources, this is infrastructure, this is energy. So there is an opportunity for both sides to really win."

As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, Ukraine and the United States signed an agreement on minerals.

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio also said that the agreement on economic cooperation between Ukraine and the United States, signed on April 30, is an important step towards ending the full-scale war in Ukraine.

Meanwhile, US Vice President JD Vance said that there is a very large gap between what the russians want in peace talks and what the Ukrainians want.
