Despite statements about May ceasefire, russians are trying to reach administrative border of Dnipropetrovsk Region – Syrskyi

Despite the statements about the ceasefire for the May holidays, the russian troops have significantly increased the intensity of hostilities and are trying to reach the administrative border of the Dnipropetrovsk Region.

The Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Oleksandr Syrskyi announced this on Facebook, the Ukrainian News agency reports.

"Despite the loud statements about the readiness for a ceasefire for the May holidays, the occupiers have significantly increased the intensity of hostilities, focusing their main efforts on the Pokrovsk axis. The lack of prospects in the operational and tactical plan does not stop the enemy, it is stubbornly trying to break through the defense of our troops on this axis and reach the administrative border of the Dnipropetrovsk Region," he said.

Syrskyi noted that for this purpose, the russian command throws new units into battle every day, drives its soldiers to their deaths, reports on illusory successes and victories.

He reported that in connection with the above situation, he devoted the day to work in the brigades that hold the defense on this axis, in order to resolve problematic issues and provide assistance to the unit commanders in organizing combat operations.

Syrskyi instructed to additionally provide the brigades on this axis with ammunition, drones, electronic warfare equipment and reserves, with special emphasis on unmanned strike systems.

He noted that despite the constant pressure and attempts to break through, the enemy is constantly suffering losses and retreating, fire damage is carried out to the entire depth of the enemy's battle formations.

As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, the leader of the aggressor country, russia, vladimir putin, announced a new ceasefire from May 8 to 10 on the occasion of the 80th anniversary of the Victory.

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy accused putin of another manipulation of the ceasefire.

Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha, speaking about putin's announcement of a new ceasefire, noted that if russia wants peace, it must cease fire immediately and for at least 30 days for peace talks to end the war.
