The United States has removed from its plan to end the russian-Ukrainian war a clause on the need to hold elections in Ukraine. A few months ago, Washington considered this a potential condition of the aggressor country, russia.
This is stated in the material of Radio Liberty correspondent Rikard Jozwiak.
The journalist, referring to his own sources in European diplomatic circles, claims that the call for new elections in Ukraine has been excluded from the peace plan.
According to diplomats, this clause "quietly disappeared" from the American theses after it was first mentioned as a potential condition of Moscow in possible negotiations.
Jozwiak's interlocutors said that despite this, russia may still try to insist that elections in Ukraine become a mandatory condition of a peace treaty.
As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, on April 23, the Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada, Ruslan Stefanchuk, stated that there will be no elections in Ukraine during the war, although some parliamentary factions have begun to prepare for them.
In mid-April, Stefanchuk called the possibility of holding elections using the Diia portal unrealistic.
At the end of March this year, the Office of the President of Ukraine called information about alleged preparations for the elections fake.
