US President Donald Trump believes that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy is ready to accept the loss of Crimea in order to end the war and establish peace.
This was reported by Sky News.
During his comments to reporters, Trump positively assessed his meeting with Zelenskyy at the Vatican and noted that the next few days will show whether progress has been made.
Answering a question about the change in Zelenskyy's behavior after a heated argument at the White House in late February, Trump said: "I see that he (Zelenskyy - ed.) has become calmer, I think he understands the picture, I think he wants to make a deal."
At the same time, Trump called on russian president vladimir putin to stop fighting and "make a deal."
"I am very disappointed with the russian strikes on Ukraine. I will answer the question of whether I trust Putin in about two weeks," Trump said.
The American President also expressed his belief that Zelenskyy is ready to give up Crimea.
"We'll see what happens in the next few days. Don't talk to me about Crimea, talk to Obama and Biden about Crimea," Trump said.
Recall that russia annexed Crimea in 2014, when Barack Obama was US President.
Earlier it was reported that the US offered Ukraine a seven-point peace plan. Among the conditions are the recognition of Crimea and the occupied territories as russian, refusal to join NATO in exchange for ending the war and lifting sanctions against the russian federation.
As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, on April 26, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said that russian dictator vladimir putin is ready for negotiations with Ukraine without preconditions.
At the same time, US President Donald Trump suggested that it is putin who does not want to end the war against Ukraine.
