Naftogaz urgently purchases 1 billion cubic meters of gas

Naftogaz Group has attracted a loan from the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development in the amount of EUR 270 million, as well as grant financing in the amount of EUR 140 million provided by the Government of Norway through the NORAD fund.

This is stated in the group's message, Ukrainian News Agency reports.

The message states that the funds will be received through the EBRD.

The relevant loan and grant agreements were signed by the head of the Naftogaz group, Roman Chumak, and the deputy director of the EBRD in Ukraine, Mark Magaletsky.

Roman Chumak emphasized that the specified financing is already available, and Naftogaz is urgently directing it to import gas: "The funds received are extremely important for Naftogaz. They will allow us to purchase almost 1 billion cubic meters of gas, which is critically important for the stable passage of the next heating season, especially in conditions of war and regular attacks on our energy infrastructure. Thank you to all partners who are helping Naftogaz prepare for the next winter.”

As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, Ukraine and the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development signed a Guarantee Agreement under the project “Project for Financing Emergency Gas Purchases of Naftogaz of Ukraine”.

The team of JSC Ukrtransgaz - the operator of Ukrainian gas storage facilities, which is part of the Naftogaz Group - has started a new season of pumping natural gas into underground storage facilities (UGS).

Serhii Makohon, former director general of the Gas Transportation System Operator of Ukraine (GTS), said that Ukraine needs to find up to USD 3 billion quite quickly to start importing gas from May.
