On May 9, Kyiv will host a meeting of European Union foreign ministers. On this day, Ukraine will celebrate Europe Day.

French Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barrot announced this, Polish Radio reports.

"The foreign ministers of European countries intend to meet in Kyiv on May 9. I will definitely be there," he stressed.

"On this day, Putin is planning a big celebration in Moscow – for them, it is a day of victory. For us, it will be a moment of solidarity with Ukraine," he emphasized.

Recall that the USSR entered World War II on September 17, 1939, by attacking Poland on the side of the Nazi Third Reich. And on June 22, 1941, Germany attacked the USSR, which began the German-Soviet war – in russia it is called the "Great Patriotic War".

The surrender of Nazi Germany took effect at 11:01 p.m. on May 8, 1945, when France, the United Kingdom and the United States celebrated this day as "Victory in Europe Day". In moscow it was already May 9, which became the "Victory Day" of the Soviet Union in what russians call the Great Patriotic War of 1941-45.

Earlier, the media reported that Chinese leader Xi Jinping had accepted an invitation to the celebrations on May 9 in russia. The country will celebrate their national holiday "Victory Day" on this day.
