United States, Belarus and RF vote against UN resolution mentioning russian aggression

On April 16, the UN General Assembly adopted the resolution "Cooperation between the United Nations and regional and other organizations: cooperation between the United Nations and the Council of Europe", which mentions the russian aggression against Ukraine. This is stated on the website of the US mission to the UN.

105 countries voted for the document, nine against, including Belarus and the United States. 33 countries abstained.

Voted against: Belarus, North Korea, Eritrea, Mali, Nicaragua, Niger, russia, Sudan and the United States.

The resolution mentions russian aggression against Ukraine several times. In particular, the Preamble states that Europe faces unprecedented challenges "after the aggression of the russian federation against Ukraine, and against Georgia," and mentions the work to create a special tribunal for the crime of aggression against Ukraine.

Representatives of the russian delegation stated that the resolution includes "unacceptable politicized wording." The United States noted that the resolution contains statements that "do not contribute to progress towards achieving peace."

As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, on April 5, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy drew the attention of the world community to the atrocities committed by the aggressor country of russia against the people of Ukraine.

Also on April 5, Zelenskyy stated that he was "unpleasantly surprised" by the reaction of the US Embassy to the russian attack on Kryvyi Rih.

On April 4, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio stated that russia had violated the terms of the ceasefire.
