The Coordination Headquarters for the Treatment of Prisoners of War and all involved structures are working around the clock to search for and release Ukrainian defenders and civilians held captive in the russian federation.
This was stated by the head of the Security Service of Ukraine (SSU), Vasyl Maliuk, Ukrainian News Agency reports.
"The work to search for and release prisoners does not stop for a minute. Each of us is aware of its importance and responsibility. We are doing everything to fulfill the task set by the Supreme Commander-in-Chief Volodymyr Zelenskyy - to return all Ukrainian prisoners of war home," Maliuk said.
According to him, over more than 3 years of full-scale war, Ukraine has managed to return 4,306 of our defenders and civilians from russian captivity.
At the meeting, members of the Coordination Headquarters Council discussed urgent issues regarding the return of prisoners, the priority of exchanges, and the intensification of negotiations.
The head of the Coordination Headquarters, the head of the Defense Intelligence, Kyrylo Budanov, emphasized that "only through the joint coordinated efforts of all state bodies involved in the work on the return of prisoners, and with the active participation of the public, we will be able to achieve the desired result."
The urgent task is to open representative offices of the Coordination Headquarters in each region as soon as possible and to properly launch the work of the Public Council.
Maliuk added that in addition to conducting investigative and organizational work, investigators of the Security Service also conduct all necessary procedural actions with prisoners of war who fought in the armed forces of the russian federation and were captured by the Defense Forces, as recently - citizens of the People's Republic of China.
"After all, Ukraine is ready to exchange these prisoners of war for its defenders," he emphasized.
For more effective and coordinated work, the Council of the Coordination Headquarters adopted a number of organizational decisions. In particular, the work of regional groups was coordinated, including the Crimean representative offices, which will start working on the ground in the near future.
At the same time, the continuation of work and support centers for relatives of prisoners who recently started working in Lviv, Vinnytsia, Mykolaiv and Kharkiv was normalized.
The members of the Coordination Headquarters Council also discussed the possibility of public participation in the activities of the Coordination Headquarters, including in the Public Council.
As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, Chinese prisoners of war want to take part in the exchange.
