Chinese POWs want to participate in exchange

Prisoners of war from China are asking to be exchanged so they can return to their homeland.

They said this at a press conference, the Ukrainian News agency reports.

They noted that they signed a contract with the russian armed forces voluntarily.

They also said that there are bloggers on some Chinese platforms who can advertise work, in particular, contract military service in the russian federation.

The Chinese said that they had no previous contact with government agencies and had worked in various jobs.

One of the servicemen said that after losing his job in China, he decided to earn some extra money in russia and got such a job through intermediaries.

"I went to work, which was related to the rehabilitation of the military, because there were a lot of them... We were warned that it was not advisable to go to russia, because there were hostilities there. They hid all the information from us. I refused to participate in hostilities, but they sent me to the front," said one of the prisoners.

Another prisoner thought he was going to work related to construction.

"All the documents were in Russian, everything was explained to us in sign language. We didn't know exactly how much we were supposed to get paid. We only knew about the approximate amounts. They gave me a card, on which I received RUB 200,000. This money, along with the phone, was periodically taken by the Russians and spent by the Russians under the pretext of spending on fuel and other things," the prisoners of war said.

Their commander in the russian army was a russian.

"Other Russians were involved in hard work and treated more or less normally, but there were some who were treated badly. There were 2 Chinese citizens in our unit," the prisoners added.

They stressed that they were ready to take part in the exchange in order to return to China.

"We agree to take part in the exchange. We want to return to China, to our homeland. We hope that China can help carry out an exchange between Ukraine and Russia so that we can return to China," the prisoners of war said.

The Chinese said that they were first transported to Rostov, then to Donetsk, and then taken to a deserted place by buses.

The foreign prisoners also stressed that their actions had nothing to do with the Chinese government and that russia had simply trapped them.

As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, on April 8 it became known that Ukrainian military personnel captured two Chinese citizens who had fought in the russian army in the Donetsk Region.
