In January-March 2025, compared to the same period in 2024, Ukrainian sea ports reduced cargo handling by 17.3%, or 4.8 million tons, to 23 million tons.
This is stated in a message from the Ukrainian Sea Ports Authority (USPA), Ukrainian News Agency reports.
The largest volumes of cargo handling were in the ports of Great Odesa.
Since the beginning of the year, they have processed 20.7 million tons of cargo (Pivdennyi port - 10.6 million tons, Chornomorsk port - 6.6 million tons, Odesa port - 3.5 million tons).
The ports of the Danube region - Izmail, Reni and Ust-Dunaysiky - together handled more than 2.3 million tons of cargo.
It is noted that the decrease in cargo turnover is primarily due to the reduction in land areas used by the agro-industrial complex, as well as a decrease in production in other industries, the products of which were traditionally exported.
In particular, production in the metallurgical industry - one of the flagships of the Ukrainian economy before the start of the full-scale war - has significantly decreased.
Previously, 75-80% of metal products were exported, but now the volume of its production has significantly decreased.
At the global level, there is also a decline in cargo transshipment due to instability in the markets and disruption of supply chains.
At the same time, Ukrainian ports operate in even more difficult conditions, but continue to maintain their front - logistics.
It is noted that port infrastructure remains key to ensuring the export of agricultural products, critical imports and economic stability.
As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, in 2024, compared to 2023, Ukrainian sea ports increased cargo processing by 56.8% to 97.2 million tons (2023 - 62 million tons).
