Russians shot unarmed Ukrainian soldier in Donetsk Region

On April 11, representatives of the russian aggressor army captured three Ukrainian soldiers in the Volnovakha district of the Donetsk Region. The occupiers shot one of the unarmed captured defenders with an automatic weapon.

This was reported by the Donetsk regional prosecutor's office.

Thus, on April 11, three Ukrainian soldiers were performing combat missions at positions near the village of Rozdolne, Volnovakha district.

"During the assault, the occupiers took them prisoner. Representatives of the aggressor army shot one of the unarmed Ukrainian soldiers with an automatic weapon," the prosecutor's office reported.

Urgent investigative and search actions are currently being carried out to establish all the circumstances of the incident and the individuals from among the russian servicemen involved in the commission of the specified crime.

The killing of prisoners is a gross violation of the Geneva Conventions and qualifies as a grave international crime.

Under the procedural leadership of the Donetsk regional prosecutor's office, a pre-trial investigation has been launched into criminal proceedings on the fact of committing a war crime that caused the death of a person (Part 2 of Article 438 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).

As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, in October 2024, it was known about more than 100 servicemen of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, whom the aggressor state of russia executed after being captured. Ukrainian law enforcement agencies are doing everything possible to record such crimes.

In February 2025, the UN Human Rights Monitoring Mission in Ukraine announced a sharp increase in reported executions of Ukrainian servicemen captured by the russian armed forces - since the end of August 2024, 79 cases of such executions have been recorded in 24 separate incidents.

Meanwhile, in March, a video of the alleged execution of unarmed Ukrainian soldiers captured by the russians went viral online. The released video shows at least 5 prisoners of war allegedly being killed.
