The European Union, in response to the US decision to stop increasing tariffs on foreign goods, has also suspended its countermeasures against the States.
The President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, reported this on X.
"We took note of the announcement by President Trump. We want to give negotiations a chance. While finalising the adoption of the EU countermeasures that saw strong support from our Member States, we will put them on hold for 90 days," the official said.
According to the head of the European Commission, if the negotiations are not satisfactory, the countermeasures will still be applied.
At the same time, she warned that the European Union reserves the right to apply a response if the dialogue does not bring results.
The increased EU tariffs on American goods were to enter into force on April 15. However, they were postponed for 90 days after US President Donald Trump, who the day before also paused the increase in tariffs for everyone except China.
As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, Trump announced a 90-day pause in the new tariff system for everyone except China - for which the American President raised the tariff to 125% and left it in force.
