On the night of April 9, the russian authorities announced one of the largest drone attacks in recent times. According to official information, 158 drones were allegedly shot down over the territory of russia and temporarily occupied Crimea.
According to the russian Defense Ministry, the main strikes fell on the southern regions of the country:
- "67 drones were shot down over the Krasnodar Krai",
- "29 - over the Rostov Oblast, 15 - over North Ossetia, 11 - over the Voronezh Oblast, 10 - over the Kursk Oblast, 5 - over the Belgorod Oblast, 3 - over Crimea, 2 - over the Penza Oblast and 1 each - over the Saratov, Oryol Oblasts and Stavropol Krai".
Also, 7 drones were allegedly shot down over the Sea of Azov and another 6 over the Black Sea.
The attack on Mozdok in North Ossetia attracted special attention - it is there that one of the important military airfields is located, from where MiG-31K and TU take off, launching missiles over the territory of Ukraine.
The head of the republic, Sergey Menyaylo, stated: "An attack by unmanned aerial vehicles was repelled in the Mozdok district. According to the russian Ministry of Defense, 15 drones were destroyed by air defense systems."
He also assured that "there were no casualties or damage," adding that a "drone danger regime" had been introduced in the region.
Meanwhile, the Astra Telegram channel, citing local residents, reported explosions near the Mozdok airfield. "Photos of smoke rising after the attack were published on social networks," the channel notes.
Astra journalists geolocated one of the photos and concluded that "the shots were taken near the district palace of culture on the 50th anniversary of October Square." This is approximately 6 km from the airbase itself.
Explosions were also heard in Taganrog, Tikhoretsk, Slavyansk-na-Kubani, Krymsk, Saratov and Engels.
There has been no reaction from the Ukrainian side to these statements so far.
As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, the russian Ministry of Defense stated that hundreds of drones attacked the country's territory on the night of March 11. According to the agency, 337 drones were allegedly shot down.
