Attacking with naval drones becomes more difficult due to changes in russian defense – Navy commander

The aggressor state russia has introduced an echeloned defense system, which has made it more difficult for the Ukrainian Defense Forces to attack using naval drones.

The commander of the Ukrainian Naval Forces, Oleksii Neizhpapa, stated this in an interview with Krym.Realii.

"Once we could easily enter the Sevastopol Bay with drones, now it is not so easy. Because the enemy has created an echeloned defense system. It starts with an echeloned detection system, long-range, medium, and short-range detection of our unmanned systems. Then the order of their destruction..." he said.

The commander of the Navy noted that in order to overcome this defense, the Ukrainian side must make other technical decisions, be more flexible and smarter, and always be ahead in technology.

"And those drones that were just kamikazes at sea are almost history. Now all drones, sea drones, must themselves carry a variety of weapons, with different areas of application, in order to be more effective and successful," Neizhpapa added.

In addition, when asked whether russia has analogues of such drones, the commander of the Navy noted that the russian federation forces are "trying to do it."

"There have been several applications of them, more or less successful. And they are working on it. And we are also preparing to repel these drones, their use is possible. Therefore, just like then, during the war on land, it was new for them, and now, you see, there is a drone war going on. So it is at sea: they are also preparing to do the same things. Therefore, we are also preparing for this, not only to use drones ourselves against the enemy, but also to defend ourselves from them," he said.

As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, the Navy meanwhile told how, after a successful Ukrainian strike with two Neptune anti-ship missiles on the Moskva cruiser in April 2022, the aggressor state russia tried to save it and conducted a search and rescue operation.
