Ukraine currently remains the most mined country in the world, the area of potentially contaminated with explosive objects is about 139,000 square kilometers. This was stated by the head of the humanitarian demining department of the State Emergency Service of Ukraine (SESU) Mykola Didyk on TV.
Of these, 31,000 square kilometers are de-occupied territories, where humanitarian demining measures are already being carried out.
"Ukraine, not only in Europe, but also in the world, unfortunately, remains the most mined country," the SESU notes.
The worst situation is observed in the Donetsk Region, as well as in the liberated territories of the Kharkiv, Kherson and Mykolaiv Regions, where the occupiers were present for a long time.
As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, in April 2023, Interior Minister Ihor Klymenko stated that about 30% of Ukraine's territory is contaminated with enemy mines and unexploded ordnance, and it will take more than 10 years to demine agricultural land.
