US President Donald Trump did not support the initiative of russian leader vladimir putin to introduce an interim administration in Ukraine under the auspices of the UN. The Department of State emphasized that Ukraine is an independent democratic state, and its future is determined only by the people.
This was stated at a briefing by US Department of State spokeswoman Tammy Bruce.
The White House recalled that the US will diplomatically seek lasting peace between russia and Ukraine.
"President Trump has made it clear that russia and Ukraine must move to a complete ceasefire. Nothing has changed now," Bruce said.
She added that the negotiations will require russia and Ukraine to "make tough decisions and compromises."
Recall that Kremlin leader vladimir putin proposed introducing an interim administration in Ukraine under the auspices of the UN. He wants presidential election to be held in Ukraine at this time, electing a president loyal to russia.
In response, Foreign Ministry spokesman Heorhii Tykhyi said that the UN should establish temporary administration in the russian city of Vorkuta to begin with, since dictator vladimir putin is spending billions on a war against Ukraine instead of developing his cities.
UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres said that Ukraine is run by a legitimate government.
