US President's National Security Advisor Mike Waltz used the civilian messenger Signal not only for discussion strikes on the Yemeni Houthis, but also to discuss a peaceful settlement of russia's war against Ukraine.
The Wall Street Journal writes about this with reference to unnamed American officials.
Waltz has communicated with government officials several times, in particular, discussing "military operations" and ways to a ceasefire between russia and Ukraine.
WSJ interlocutors believe that if the news about the leak via Signal had first appeared in the conservative media, closer to Republicans, Waltz would have already been fired.
Recall, US President Donald Trump believes that the leak of secret data about strikes on the Houthis via the Signal chat is "fake news", so he is not going to fire anyone from his team.
Talks about the possible dismissal of Waltz appeared after he added an outsider to the chat on Signal. In particular, this was discussed by US Vice President JD Vance and White House Chief of Staff Susie Wiles.
Recall that Atlantic journalist Jeffrey Goldberg was accidentally added to the chat by members of the US President's team on the Signal messenger. This was done by National Security Advisor Mike Waltz. There, he and other officials discussed upcoming strikes on Yemeni Houthi positions. The journalist witnessed how commands for these strikes were given, what weapons were being used were being discussed, and the apparent targets being hit. And a few hours later, reports of these strikes appeared on social networks.
The media wrote that Trump "was furious" by Waltz's action, but publicly defended his adviser.
