US President Donald Trump believes that the leak of secret data about strikes on the Houthis through the Signal chat is "fake news", so he is not going to fire anyone from his team.
Trump said this in an interview with NBC News, the Associated Press reports.
He assured that he trusts his national security adviser Mike Waltz and Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth.
"I don’t fire people because of fake news and witch hunts," Trump said.
Talk of a possible dismissal of Waltz appeared after he added an outsider to the chat in Signal. In particular, US Vice President J.D. Vance and White House Chief of Staff Susie Wiles spoke about this.
Recall that Atlantic journalist Jeffrey Goldberg was accidentally added to the chat by members of the US president's team in the Signal messenger. National Security Advisor Mike Waltz did it. There, he and other officials discussed future strikes on Yemeni Houthi positions. The journalist witnessed the commands for these strikes being given, the responsibilities, the weapons being used, and the apparent targets being hit. And a few hours later, reports of these strikes appeared on social media.
The media reported that Trump was “furious” by Waltz’s actions, but publicly defended his Advisor.
