A diesel tank was damaged at the Zaporizhzhia NPP temporarily occupied by russia, spilling fuel, which would have been enough to power the station's emergency generators for 25 days.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine’s spokesman Heorhii Tykhyi announced this on X, the Ukrainian News agency reports.
It is noted that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine received a report about the damage to the diesel tank.
"We received reports about the damage to the diesel tank at the Zaporizhzhia NPP occupied by Russia. The spilled fuel would have been enough to power the station's emergency generators for 25 days. The Russians not only stole the station, but are also unable to ensure its basic security," the MFA spokesman said in a statement.
According to Tykhyi, this incident is a direct result of russia's reckless replacement of certified Ukrainian experts with unqualified temporary russian operatives.
"The Zaporizhzhia NPP must be returned to Ukrainian control. This is the only way to prevent further incidents," Tykhyi stressed.
Russian troops seized the Zaporizhzhia NPP on March 4, 2022; in September, the plant stopped generating electricity.
Currently, russian military personnel and military equipment are located on the territory of the nuclear facility.
As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, on March 19, US President Donald Trump, during a telephone conversation with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, proposed transferring Ukrainian nuclear power plants to American management for their protection.
