"Window of opportunity" between ceasefire and peace agreement will be short – Zelenskyy

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has said that the period between a ceasefire and reaching a peace agreement with russia could be very short, as the kremlin is constantly violating agreements.

He said this in an interview with Time magazine, published on March 25.

"Since 2014, the Russians have been constantly violating the peace. This is how I see it. They are going to violate it all the time. That is why the window of opportunity is very short between the moment of the ceasefire and the moment of reaching an agreement to end the war," Zelenskyy said.

According to him, this period could last "a month, two, three, and that's it."

The President stressed that the morale of the Ukrainian military, which currently numbers 800,000, is an important factor. At the same time, the issue is "not only in finances," since without a peace agreement, the situation risks turning into a frozen conflict.

"And we cannot continue to live in a state of war. We need to open the borders. We need to liberalize many things. And we can do this if we sign an agreement," Zelenskyy explained.

He emphasized that if an agreement is reached quickly, then violations of the ceasefire will be isolated.

"We can only see individual violations here and there," he noted.

At the same time, if the process drags on, the consequences could be much worse.

"It would not be a complete collapse. But if the process drags on, then everything will fall apart many times. And we do not know how it will end," Zelenskyy emphasized.

The President's interview was recorded before the talks between representatives of Ukraine, the United States and russia in Saudi Arabia, where they discussed a ceasefire at sea and a ban on strikes on energy infrastructure.

Recall that following the results of negotiations between the United States, Ukraine and the aggressor country russia in Saudi Arabia, all parties agreed to ensure safe navigation in the Black Sea and to implement a ban on attacks on energy infrastructure.
